Time Goes By But Some Things Never Change
It seems that as the years go by we drift further and further from tradition. I don’t know about your house but in our house we always sit down to a table and enjoy a home cooked meal where we can have some good converstion about what each other has done throughout the day. Meal times are great times to be enjoyed and relished and I’m so glad that we have that tradition but I must say that it’s much different today than it was many years ago when Phil and I were dating.
Every Sunday found us at a huge feast with a first dish of some kind of pasta or lasagna followed by the most delicious fried veal cutlets and then some chicken and roast beef with a fresh vegetable and huge salad. My sister in law and I would always end up in the kitchen doing the dishes and then usually while the men retired to the living room to watch football we would take a quick nap before it was time to start with coffeee and desserts. And what an arreay of desserts there were. Of course many different varieties of Italian pastries and black coffeee or as most Americans know it as expresso but to us it was simply black coffee.
I will never forget the wonderful feeling I felt there in that great family atmosphere because I had grown up without a father and I dearly cherished the presense of a father figure. I felt so protected.
I have tried to instill that sense of tradition in my children and their families however now that it’s just Phil and myself at home we no longer eat those large meals which still live in our precious memories but today we had my brother over for dinner and I baked fresh Italian bread and prepared our cherished recipe for pasta with gravy or sauce as some people know it. I used ziti and after they werre cooked I added Ricotta nad Mozzarella so that it was almost like a lasagna and served the pasta first followed by Meatballs with salad and then I made black coffee and added lots of splenda and whipped cream and stirred that up and put a big dollop of whipped cream on top sprinkled with some cinnamon and served that with some homemade biscotti which my daughter in law Donna made. I am fortunate because My Daughters In Law have learned how to cook like I do and my boys are very happy.
There’s always something cooking at the |bracco| house.
I feel so fortunate that we discovered the power of the internet many years ago and have developed a very successful |home based business|. We never dreamed that we would be doing more in our retirement years than we did while we were working and raising a family but with our |home based business| income we have the luxury of doing anything we want whenever we want. Take a look at a couple of photos of us relaxing at a 5 star resort Spa in Jackson Hole Wyoming. Now that’s the life!
